First of all I feel the need to mention this is a novel split into parts. They can be viewed as separate novels but this book has a huge cliffhanger at the end lending itself more to a split book. Having gotten that out of the way just let me say - jeeeeeeeez. This novel keeps the hard hits coming, twist after twist, reveal after reveal. I've never met a book that has fit the saying "and so the plot thickens" so perfectly. Silks would be a great poker player, she keeps as much information as possible without effecting the story from the reader. The result left me constantly surprised and they were often good ones. I was on the fence a bit because Tristan and Allie's relationship jumps from strangers to lovers very quickly and while I'm all for love sweeping characters away I had a few qualms with how well these characters actually knew each other.

Their chemistry is undeniably hot and sexy but their connection seems to revolve around Allie's revenge and Tristan's need to rescue someone. I am wary of how much their characters actually like each other outside of sex. However, this is a novella length read so maybe their relationship will develop in the second book Layers Peeled. Despite my issues with their relationship, this book was beautifully written and I am intrigued to see what happens next for Allie and Tristan. The novel holds the potential to be great depending on how this sequel goes. 3 out of 5 because of the cliffhanger and lack of emotional depth in the relationship.
